hey guys...
sabse pehle happy independence day to u all...hope u sent out more msgs wishing ppl happy independence than u did for valentines...i mean yaar valentine toh ek hi ho sakti hai na...aur happy independence toh sbako bola ja sakta hai...
Anyways, i just saw RDB for the nth time again ( and loved every minute of it) and then i questioned myself yaar am I a proud indian...the answer to which is a resounding YES...and then i asked myself...what makes me proud to be an indian...here are a few things which came to my mind
1 Knowledge: We r the ones who gave the world the yoga,ayurveda,astrology,spiritual knowledge...we gave the world 0, modern mathematics would not have been possible without it. There r references to missile technology in the ancient vedas.
2 Cuisine: Where else in the world can you find about 20 fundamentally diff ways of cooking food. Where in this world will u get so many varieties of sweets, subzis rotis drinks (jalzeera lassi pana aam ras)...
3 Heritage: India has so many marvels which so underrated. i mean i am sure if the rust free iron pillar was anywhere else in the world i wold have been as popular as the effiel tower by now. Dont even get me started on list of great temples in india (follow this link to know why i say this)
4 Dressing: Each state in india has its oown unique sense of dressing. Again steeped in tradition and style.
5 Festivals: There is no one month in India which passes without a festival. Which other culture has festivals honoring the brother-sister relationship, where else do you see such elaborate pujas,weddings,birthday rituals, hell even cremation ceremonies ;). Though now they have become more about flaunting ur money than anything else but i do hope wont be the case for long.
6 Diversity n Democracy: How much ever we may hate r politicians but there is no denying the fact that we are the largest democracy in the world. Whatever be the conflicts in this country we r still 1 country. Name one other country which is so diverse and yet so united. Look at how Russia broke apart, see racial divide in the US or how China functions.
The problem with most of us i believe is that most of r just too busy finding faults that we miss the treasures that we are blessed with.
So guys cmon add to this small list which i have put up and who knows you could find this content being floated around in chain mails...just kidding but plz do contribute

to most parts i agree with you too but then i did feel tat you were acting a lot like Dr. Murli manohar joshi and only portraying the good about India......
Well let me start with the last point you have made about racism. I strongly believe that we Indians are the most racist of the lot and the least apologetic about it. A good example would be how south Indians are treated in North India being called 'kaliya' or 'kallu', or how easily we say that sardars are fools or marwadi are stingy or malyalees are untrustworthy or gujuratis are sweet-talkers or Bihari's are lazy and the list can go on and on. You would have witnessed or wud have surely been the target of such comments atleast once in ur life. And the best part is that we always live in denial-mode and accuse a white skinned to be racial....we need to do some serious introspection.
About being 'united' well I think the latest happenings in Kashmir or the age-old kaveri water dispute or the fact that from 25 states we have moved on to have 28 states and a rising demand for more seperate states and the fact that many want to even break away from India....
Dude we are passing through the most fragile times and we may end-up seeing history books be re-written.... so gear up for some rough times!!!
